Office for Environmental Programs

Director's Welcome

Welcome to the Office for Environmental Programs.

We coordinate courses in the Graduate Environmental Program (GEP), together with facilitating a wide range of activities, research and seminars associated with that program. The Graduate Environmental Program is an innovative postgraduate course. It crosses ten Faculties at the University and allows you access to a wide range of environmentally relevant subjects taught by academics with a strong teaching and research profile in environmental sustainability. These academics have committed their passion and knowledge to furthering education in environmental sustainability through the Program. For you it means enhancement, extension, and learning about environmental questions in a context that engages with the complexity of 'the environment' in a trans-disciplinary manner.

Many graduates have already passed successfully through the program, and are making a difference in their homes, communities and industries. They are making a difference to the environment and improving the future of the planet. Our students have come from many different disciplinary backgrounds and life experiences and bring this diversity to the multidisciplinary program. They contribute through their knowledge in engineering, science, social science, business and economics, architecture, medicine and veterinary science, information technology, law, communication, agriculture and more. This diversity is brought to bear also in the range of activities, public seminars, and workshops sponsored by the Office for Environmental Programs that enhance the opportunities for engagement with environmental questions.

Environmental matters loom large, from climate change to waste management, and they cross all fields of modern life. For professionals working in all areas, career-advancement depends upon lifelong learning and the capacity to respond to emerging social, political and environmental questions as they impact in the public and professional sphere. Postgraduate qualifications are a great way to show commitment and motivation - they have global currency. In this regard, the GEP provides a broad, flexible curriculum, providing leading edge ideas on managing and improving the environment, both natural and built.

The environment has been placed 'back on the agenda' within Australia and Internationally. In all employment sectors there is an increasing demand for people with environmental expertise, particularly those with the skills to apply multidisciplinary insights to the problems at hand. The GEP will build on the knowledge you gained in your first degree, broadening your perspective.

I look forward to welcoming you to the Graduate Environmental Program at some time in the future. Information about the program can be readily obtained from this website and by contacting us.
